Born and raised in San Francisco, I spent much of my childhood at the library. I found myself drawn to mythology and comics from other cultures. I became fascinated by how different cultures represent the world in distinct ways. I gravitated toward art to investigate my interest in these representations. My work uses sharp contrast and textures, which I found in my early reading, to evoke feelings of home. Home can be many things. We feel at home in particular places or with certain people, but undefinable things also stir a sense of home. I try to give form to these things which make us feel at home.
The gremlin that appears regularly in my work is a shade of my childhood. It illustrates a mischievous energy that drove my curiosity as a child in the library and remains with me as I make art.
